A Tale of Two Bookcases

G in Berlin tagged me with a quick meme to show what's on my shelves by displaying a bookcase.

In truth, this could be an object lesson in the idea that 'sometimes people aren't what they appear'. I have two bookcases, but only one is on display for all the word to see.

This bookcase houses some old, leather-bound classics, decorative items, and framed photographs. It's the sort of bookcase I hope people notice, admire, and think, "Diane has such classic taste." Little do visitors know that I've never actually opened any of the books to read. But that's besides the point.

Here's my second, well-used, bookcase. It's hidden my loft, out of sight of most house guests. What does this bookcase say about me? Be kind with your answers.

In truth, I'm not much of a reader. After seeing my shelves, you probably could guess this. But in fairness to me, I spent 8 hours catching up on all my blog subscriptions after returning from Italy. At least, I'm reading something.

Now it's time to tag a few of you. What's on your bookcase? I tag Utenzi, Kenju, Tenacious D, and the Grunt.

Oh no! I've been tagged. I'll post on this tomorrow, Diane.

We have a little overlap. I've got Freakanomics and a Scrabble dictionary on my bookshelf.

Hey, it's quality that counts, not quantity!

Thanks for joining in, Diane. If anyone else does, can you drop me a line as well and I'll post links? Didn't realize we had reading Kenju in common... it's a small blogosphere.

Blog reading should count as "actual reading" cuz it sure takes a lot of time!

I've been tagged again. I will get to this one as soon as I can.

AHA! You missed seeing my bookshelves when I posted them before? If I can find the post, I'll point the way for you. Thanks, Diane.

G in Berlin: quit lurking at my place and speak up!! Glad to have you as a reader.

I like the second one better!

So what did you think of Freakonomics? I've been curious about the book and would like your point of view.

I sure hope reading blogs counts! My stack of magazines is out of control because I'm blogging too much. Ahh welll...reading is reading I say.

A degree in communications and English and I read far more magazines and blogs than books. Something that I noticed a number of years ago is that I prefer nonfiction over fiction. I rarely read novels, but books of essays, memoirs, biographies, how-to books, and blogs engage me.
