Calling all Bloggers! Virtual Post Election Bash

Seven days and counting...

Regardless of political ideology, there is one fact that every American citizen can agree upon:

Enough already! After two years, dozens of candidates, thousands of advertisements, and millions upon millions of dollars, this election cycle seems to have gone on forever. Finally, a mere week from today, Americans will go to the polls to make one of the most historic decisions in U.S. history.

I think this is cause for celebration, don't you?

It's in this spirt, and in conjunction with Dianne of Forks Off the Moment, that we'd like to invite bloggers, near and far, to participate in a Virtual Post Election Bash. The idea is simple: The morning after the last state is called and the electoral collage counter hits 270, bloggers will find their own way to commemorate this historic occasion.

I'm already planning my small contribution to the party, but this event is sort of like a progressive dinner-- everyone needs to bring a little something.

If you are willing to use your blog as virtual post-election party hotspot on November 5th, please feel free to leave me or Dianne a comment. Election day and the day after, I'll provide a link to your site so other bloggers know you are participating! And, please, help spread the word because we'd like to see as many virtual celebrations as possible. It's been a hard fought, and often divisive, election campaign. It's time to lighten the mood and celebrate democracy!

I've already voted, but no matter the outcome the new president will be cause for celebration. I would love to participate.

I'd like to participate as well. Although I might miss my obsessive following of the election I'm glad to know that I can replace it with obsessive following of the economies of the world and our descent into the great depression redux;)

I'm in. Even though I don't blog about politics much, it would be pretty much impossible to not mention the election once it's finally decided. Fingers crossed that we actually have an answer when we wake up Wednesday... :)

I won't have access to a computer for most of that day, but i think it's a great idea. I will be SO HAPPY when this is over.

Count me in! I am so happy it will be over (God willing!) in a week!

I second Princess Extraordinaire's every word.

Can't we pretend it is over now, start celebrating - turn off the news for a few weeks - then tune back in later to read a summary of the ugly details?

just a thought....

I will be in Dusseldorf but also ready to celebrate the end of a sad era.

We voted yesterday. I'll be looking in on you and Dianne. But I can't do the live thing because I may be working.

I'm a Brit - may I play? I will certainly be raising a glass to the victor.

I'm in :) I'll just be happy not to have to hear about the election anymore (or I may be crying if my pick doesn't win and being thankful I don't live in the US right now!)

I'm interested. What do we have to do?

J - What you do is completely up to you. I wanted to leave it open to make it as easy for folks to participate as possible. Nov 5 will be a whole new day for the U.S. and it will be nice to mark the occasion. Some people might just want to celebrate the end of the campaign--there is certainly enough weariness of it all out there. Still others might want to make this a candidate-specific tribute.

Oh, you know I am in!!!

If I was back in the states, I would be having a real party. As it is, I will be sitting on my sofa alone at 3am drinking sekt.

I will be more than happy to have this whole election behind us... but not for the same reason as many of your readers here. I will actually miss George W. Bush, not for is stance on immigration or his spend spend spend financial plans. But as much as I differ with many of his policies, I think he has done one heck of a job of keeping this country safe from another attack on it by terrorists (who want to put an end to the way of life) that most of us value. Does anyone remember 9/11/01? When most of us were afraid to get on a plane, we had trouble sleeping at night and were scared to go where a lot of people might gather? Now as for me, I think that the protection of this country is money well spent. He has managed to keep this country safe from another attack for a total of two thousand, six hundred and three days and COUNTING. He did that by going after these Islamic terrorists and for that he should be honored. Instead he is ridiculed as a buffoon and an idiot. This all in spite of the fact that he is the kind of person who stands up for what he believes in. (Which also just irks people who lack that attribute). President Bush did all of this, while he was under constant and extreme pressure (that not many of us could stand up to). I think he is a GOOD man and I haven't seen that much courage to stand up for “what he believes in” since Ronald Reagan. I thank God for a President with the integrity, strength and character that he has displayed as our President. Someday I am sure that history will look back on him favorably as a leader of Winston Churchill’s stature and not as a Neville Chamberlain. So, although I’ll be glad to have this entire election rancor behind us, I won’t be parting at his leaving office on January 20th of next year, regardless of which party wins the election. But then... that's just how I roll! Luv ya! Barney

Wow. I took a look at Barney's blog and it seems to be a compilation of racist and sexist one liners and cartoons. Good on you, Barney Fife.
