having never been to either place it's hard for me to truly say but - Italy is it for me. Milan is fashion and must be terribly exciting!! and well - all things Italian are just the best to me - food, wine, fashion, oh and the men LOL
Barcelona, Spain...only because I've seen my son's pictures from his trip there, plus he says it's one of his favourite cities and he's been around a bit more than me. Hope to get there someday...ciao
Barcelona ... TOTALLY and this is from me (and Italian!).. But Milan is just for shopping for fashion with lots of money... So I guess since you did not tells us what the trip was for.. I will assume its for pleasure and if that is the case.. BARCELONA.. hands down.. now if you would have said: Rome, Italy.. or Siena, Italy.. or even Florence, Italy..then Barcelona can take a pass.
When we were in Italy, we went through Milan on the train, but we didn't stop and I wanted to so badly. I have always wanted to go to Barcelona, too. My daughter went there for the Olympics and loved it. That is a very hard choice for me, Diane!!
Diane, Sorry, I cannot decide...have been to both places and enjoyed them equally. Wonderful wine and cuisine and lots of fun to be had. It is a tough decision, it depends what you are looking for. I am jelous of all the trips you are doing. We used to travel alot when we lived in Europe. Greetings from a homsick German in Texas..lol, Susanne
I love Italy, but I think I'd go for Barcelona. Fashion isn't my thing, and Barcelona is on my "go before I croak" list. My Auntie lived in Madrid for years and I kick myself because I didn't go to visit her while she was there.
Never been to Milan, but Frauke and I thoroughly enjoyed a day we spent in Barcelona last fall. It made us wish we could spend a week there. And since we were on a bike tour, the shopping damage to our credit cards was minimal. :-)
Milan.. at 5pm.. you take a seat in a cafe, you order a crisp glass of wine and they bring you a feast.. and if you are silly enough to order a second glass.. the whole show starts again.. fabulous..oooh and did I mention the shopping? and then there is the SHOPPING!!!
Visit them both. I love Italy as a country, but I think Barcelona as a city would be far more interesting and exciting. So if my life revolved around where I lived, I think it would be Barcelona: it looks fascinating.
Barcelona! Not been to either - From what I hear of Milan, it is a bit too exclusive - excluding? Friends who've been to Spain rave about it. So pretty! Besides, I hear that Italian airports are notorious for making your luggage disappear.
Barcelona. Milan's duomo is supposed to be incredible but I haven't heard much great about the city otherwise. But Barcelona seems to have many great things to check out!
hello i came to visit from claire's country mouse tales. i can't say which i would prefer since i have not been to either place :) i hate to stop anywhere for visit and not leave a note that i was here. so cheers to you and have a great trip! your life looks to be very, very interesting :)
I've done both and I actually LOVED Barcelona more. Other than Cinque Terra, Barcelona is my favorite spot I ever visited. IT's got the most AMAZING architecture, museums, zoos, plus the beach and a great nightlife. And the farmers market. Ohhh how I love the farmers market.
To visit for a long weekend: either one, but I guess Barcelona is slightly more spectacular (as much as that pains me to say - I feel like I'm being disloyal to Italy, but oh, the Gaudi...).

I'm one of those pesky undecideds. I suppose I'd choose Milan since my wife would likely accompany me and she's already been to Barcelona.
I would choose Milan as I am half Italian and have never beeen there...

Been to Milan. It was a nice overnight trip. Good trip, enjoyed it. But not spectacular. (Fashion is completely wasted on me.)
Am dying to go to Barcelona and have heard it is fabulous! So that's where I would pick.
BOTH!
Ok, ok. I vote for Spain only because I love flamenco.
Perhaps Barcelona because I prefer paella to pasta.

Better weather in Barcelona, no doubt! And it's just as fashionable and stylish as Milano.
Barcelona, hands down.
Milan is nice--shopping, Italian food, history
But Barcelona is spectacular. I'd go for the Sagrada Familia alone.

The nightlife starts late and ends late. It's open and fun and casual. Milan nightlife is OK, but a bit snootier.
And the best Spanish food is Castillian.
MILAN! I spent a month there when I was 16, it's gorgeous Diane. You must got there!

Barcelona, no question.
I love me some fashion and people-watching, but (for me, anyway) there is a palpable feeling in Italy of "You don't belong here."

Wherever it's warmer. Go there.
Personally I would take Milan. Especially if an AC Milan game is involved.
Toss-up!
Barcelona for the beauty & warmth! Milan for the beauty & experience :-)
Barcelona.
Hope you're enjoying the moment!

"Milan, darling, Milan." Purely because I've always wanted to say that :P x
Milan!
Bella Italia, baby!

Milan, hands down. I've visited Spain and I spent the better part of the trip wishing I were in France or Italy.
And I'm officially jealous because this is a debate I won't be having for a VERY long time.
Barcelona
