BRRRutal

The coldest winter in 100 years?!? Is this what I must come back to after frolicking in the balmy 80 degree temperatures of the Caribbean? Are the gods trying to get back at me or is this an example of the evil eye at work?

I can't help but feel a little grateful that this time next year I won't be dealing with the dreary winter of Germany. Although the temperatures do get cold at times, the weather in Barcelona appears to be consistently better than in Deutschland. At least I hope so.

Unfortunately, it's going to be a little longer before I find out for myself. Max has been informed it might take as long as three months before he receives the appropriate permits to work in Spain. We had scheduled a house-hunting trip for next week, but this might have to be rescheduled until we know for sure when we are moving. I feel anxious to begin this new phase in my life, but I suppose I'd better get used to the Southern Mediterranean concept of time.

I feel the sun and sand calling me. Any chance I could just fly back to the Caribbean? No? In that case, you will find me and Charlie huddled under the pile of blankets in my bedroom.

Call me went winter is over or when that damn paperwork from Spain shows up, ok?

Isn't it just? I am having trouble leaving the house. Welcome home, though! Hope you had a splendid holiday - could you post some cruise photos to warm us all up?

Thank the universe you're back at the keyboard! Our good friend Neil needs a little counselling. (I even called out for your help in one of the comments!)

Trust you and the Maxter are not suffering too badly in the cold.

Bundle up and enjoy it together! There's a lot of beauty out there in the cold - and coziness to come home to.

You don't know it yet, but you are going to miss Germany... although Spain sounds pretty nice right about now... No snow here but lots of crap, drab weather...

American in Norway - You are correct. I will miss Germany. This has been a wonderful experience. With these subfreezing temps, I have brain frost!

And I was just commenting to a friend today that it has been crazy warm this year. I have been wearing a light jacket in the morning, but I have yet to need gloves when out walking. You must be hogging all the cold!

I hope it eases soon, and you guys get the go-ahead for the move quickly. Waiting is hard! Welcome home!

This resonates in North America too. Friday, I was in one state and it was 65 and sunny. Sunday, I was home admiring the ice fog.

And for the important stuff...welcome back!

Welcome back, Diane! As I see it, the only problem with going to the Caribbean this time of year is having to go home!!

Welcome back Diane!!!

It's so wonderful to see ya!

I know this sounds completely insane, but I actually WISH it was colder here! Our winters in the northeast are turning into Spring time weather. We've got virtually no snow so far this year, so PLEASE blow some of that white stuff my way!

Glad you're back, dear lady!

Sincerely,
The Penguin

I hate the cold. Really hate it. The older I get the less I can tolerate it. I say you should just winter in the Caribbean... stay till spring!

Glad you're back on the blog, though.

Why is it when we're so ready for changes to take place that it never goes entirely as planned...

Enjoy the cold - it's hot and humid here. I wish I could wear a long sleeved shirt and not sweat to death - or stink!

Glad that you're back - and hope you had a fantastic holiday season!

This of this time extension as a little more time to work on your Spanish.
As for the incredible, record-breaking winter temps, I had the same shock myself when I came back from Arizona.

I hear you! It's supposed to be ZERO degrees here for most of the week. I can handle 20 degrees, but zero? OUCH.

Hope the paperwork comes through soon so you can get on with things. Waiting is always the hardest part...
