In the mornings, Charlie accompanied the husband on his 15-kilometer runs. In the the evenings, he happily kept the wife's feet warm. Charlie served as the honored guest at the extended-family breakfast on Christmas morning. He even helped count down to 2009 at a New Year's Eve party. By all reports, Charlie and the couple had become one happy family. And to be honest, I was a little worried my dog wouldn't want to return home.
I'd get pictures and e-mails of my dog on their family holiday, and all seemed to be going well. But after the holiday was over and the couple returned to work, Charlie would need to be cared for by the wife's grandmother until Max and I returned.
When the dreaded day came, I got this e-mail from the husband.
"Sabrina and myself are a bit sad... We had to give Charlie away to her Grandmum and Dad yesterday....
And the worst thing is: He ISN'T
We called them up yesterday evening, to ask how it is going. They said it took 2 minutes, then he seemed to be totally adapted to his new enviroment (and folks). He spent the evening with grandfather on the couch in front of the fireplace.
So, for humans it seemed to be disappointing, that he is not sad at all, but on the other hand, you can be glad, because Charlie doesnt seemed to suffer to much."
My deepest fear proved unfounded. Charlie didn't love these couples more than me and Max because, as it turns out, my dog is a player (or rather playa') preferring casual one-week stands to deep and meaningful relations. What a dog--literally!

jejejejejejeje....can't say the same of Chuck...he's a little neurotic for that.
I think it's very nice that he's so adaptable!
Dogs have enough love to go around. Some cats too. It's good to share your life with a critter. And even better when you can share that love with others who do or can not have pets.
I wouldn't worry too much, provided he doesn't return home on a regular basis with strange couples.
Being well-adjusted isn't all bad.
That's why they say dogs love "unconditionally" and that's why w love them so much. Wish we could be that way too.
LOL, sorry. I posted up my comment wrong. Charlie is a good doggie mascot to me. I'd love to have one just like him one day ;-)
Awww he's so cute and it's great that he is so adaptable! We're thrilled with our new addition as well.
I am happy he wanted to go home with you! : )
Dogs live in the moment. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with!
For a horrible moment, I thought you were going to say, "Because our German friends love Charlie so much we've decided to give him to them when we move to Spain!". Glad that's not the case.
I have seen Charlie's magic for myself. He has something, there's no doubt about it.
MEN!
Oh this post gave me such a chuckle!
Dogs...they are indeed fickle. It's like a child with their grandparents. Don't despair...just spoil Charlie for a while and he'll forget all about the others :)
What a lucky dog to be enjoying so many people who love him!!!!
