Where to dare?

Max and I will be celebrating our 2nd--count 'em 2--anniversary in a few weeks and we would like to go away for the weekend. The problem is we have no idea where we'd like to travel. So I turn to you, my blogger friends, who I have so woefully neglected the last couple months, for weekend-getaway ideas. Would you help a sister out? Where should we go?

And PS: Don't even think about suggesting Mexico right now.

You're in Barcelona right now, right? Ooh, head out to Madrid and then day trip it to Toledo. Also, you should definitely check out the Valley of the Fallen. Not a ton of locals go there since it's sort of controversial, it being a civil war memorial built by the winning fascist reign (headed by Fransisco Franco). His tomb also happens to be there. But the structure which was carved right out of the mountain is seriously breathtaking.

It's hard to see the scale of just how gigantic the whole place is.

Lisboa, Portugal is another great option. Close, beautiful weather and so many great sites to see and food to eat. I'm all about the food. Have a pastel de belem for me!

I'd be going to Rome or Florence! I can hardly believe it has been 2 years since we spoke on the phone. Congratulations!

Wish you had more time and I'd recommend Ambergris Caye, Belize, as well as the Mayan Ruins on the mainland. They speak English in Belize.

Africa safari for two days is a little pushing it. Hey, look at the giraffe! Time to go.

It would be nice to explore the backroads of Catalonia, find a small spot and chill. Just get away from the crowds.

Andalucia and the Alhambra before it gets too hot.

Go to Barcelona. It's a great city. Romantic, artistic, a great place for an anniversary.

What's that you say? Oh, right.

How about one of the islands off of Spain? Canary Islands or Mallorica.. My husband is going to Lanzarote for a company holiday in a couple weeks - I'll let you know if he recommends it.

Congratulations on getting to the two year mark, Diane. Since you both love to dance, I'd stick to a big city where there's lots of dance clubs for your trip. Have fun!

Two years already? Congrats! Crazy to think I've been reading you for longer than that (since before you met Max)! I love that we've both come so far. As for places to go, I'm not well-versed in surrounding areas to your neck of the woods. I defer to those above. Or Google! ;o)
