I don’t speak German, but it looks as if I might need to learn the language soon. In a chance meeting with the company vice president, Max learned that he is being considered for a position in Heidelberg toward the end of this year. Of course, the job offer and acceptance is far from definitive. Still, in a matter of weeks, Max and I might have the answer to that ever-looming question--where will we be this time next year?
Needless to say, I am excited by the prospect. I’ve toured Germany in the past, and Heidelberg was a beautiful city to visit. But what would it be like to live there?
I did some Googling last night. In typical Diane Mandy fashion, my first search “salsa dancing in Heidelberg” yielded promising results. I also found a few places to ballroom dance, as this is a requirement for moving. All in all, Germany was looking like a perfectly livable country but, then again, Google could only tell me so much.
Have you lived of do you know of anyone who has lived in Heidelberg?

I think my dad was stationed near there when he was in the army, but since that was over 50 years ago (!) it won't be much help!

I have a neighbor who was born in Germany, but she didn't live in Heidelberg. I'll ask about it.
Unfortunately I don't know a single German. It's very cool that you're so open to relocating.

I'm no help there though I have a bunch of relatives living in Germany, Diane. My father was born on an island off the Danish/German coast and much of his family lives in Germany. I've never heard them talk about dancing tho...
That sounds cool. Plus it must be nice to know where on the globe that you will be so you can start planning accordingly.

I LOVE Heidelberg - so much more to it than just the quaint castle ruins (although I can actually say that visiting them was part of what prompted me to study architecture - the split circular tower is an amazing analysis of a building's structural section!) I was still only a visitor, so don't have the wealth of into that Vespertine has, but if you're open to change and living abroad, I'd say to go for it! I lived in Frankfurt for 18 months, and absolutely LOVED the whole Germany experience.
