Is this so weird?

You may have already read about my wine glass fetish. I own upwards of 70 wineglasses (down from an all-time high of 90). And, until Max moved in last year, I didn’t possess a single everyday glass, preferring to drink all beverages from something that had a stem.

Unusual? Maybe, but that’s not what I want your opinion about.

I sat down to enjoy a glass of red wine with Max, but something bothered me. I couldn’t enjoy the wine because he’d inadvertently placed it in a glass with a narrow cup and more befitting a white wine. Gasp!!!!

Call me crazy, but I went to the cabinet and dug out the perfect goblet to compliment my favorite South African cabernet blend. I just couldn’t drink it out of the wrong glass because, in my mind, the bouquet, taste, balance and finish of wines are affected by the shape of the glass from which they are drunk.

Max just laughs, calling this act “an idiosyncrasy”, but I’m not so sure. Is it so unusual to want your red in a goblet, your sparkling in a champagne glass, and your white in yet another?

I'm not the right one to ask, since I have been known to drink red from a jelly glass...LOL

I hope you got my message today. I have to work tomorrow so I won't be around until later in the afternoon.

I am like kenju, I have drank red wine from a juice glass. I think you find that with a lot of Italians and Portuguese, no need for the perfect glass.

70 glasses eh. We had three good sets at one time and now they are all smashed. We are down to six mismatched glasses. Time for an upgrade.

Glass shape can have a profound influence on the drinking experience, so I found myself nodding as I read this entry: nothing unusual at all.

Well, except for the fact that you clearly like to get the most out of life. Unusual in the sense that the world needs more folks like that. As long as you keep drinking out of glasses that others perceive as unconventional, but you perceive as comfortable, there's hope for this planet after all.

It wouldn't matter to me, Diane, but I think you're right here. There's a reason the glasses are shaped differently--and since until recently you served drinks professionally, you've got a lot of experience in that area. Cheers!

Well since I've been known to drink wine out of a Carolina stadium cup from one of the football games....I supposed I'd be the wrong one to ask!

being a guy that owns eight different beer glasses, i'm probably not the most objective person to ask about this.

You are Not Weird! I Always drink My Wine from The Proper Glass. Perhaps it is because I was A Food Server for So Many Years and could be Fired for serving Wine In The Wrong Glass.

But, really, it makes The Wine just Taste Better. (And seem Real Expensive.)

No, in short. You wouldn't drink wine from a pint glass, after all.

Actually, I have done that ...

It's a touch odd, but we're all prone to some bizarre behaviors. I think you get a pass on this one.
