Class reunion

I graduated from Franklin County High School in 1986. Honestly, I did. But you would be hard pressed to believe me given the date of my 20th class reunion—July 28, 2007. I know my math can be faulty at times, but doesn’t this date actually reflect a 21st class reunion?

To be honest, this time last year I was beginning to feel dissed. I assumed that off in some little smoke-filled, honky-tonk bar the former homecoming queen and quarterback of the team with a perfect season (all losses) hooked up once again to sing Free Bird and The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and that I, somehow left off the guest list, was never to witness the momentous occasion.

So it sort of relieves me to know that the reunion never happened. I suppose like everything else in my lackluster class, no one ever got around to planning something last year, the right and appropriate date for the gathering. Seriously, have any of you ever heard of a 21st class reunion?

Not that I have anything to complain about. I didn’t attend the 5, 10, or 15-year events. Today, I remember exactly eight names from my entire graduating class of 300, and of those, three are still friends and associates. Besides those individuals, I doubt anyone would remember me either.

So all of this begs the question: Do I go to this reunion or not? Have you attended a high school reunion?

Oh HELL no, I haven't attended any of mine! That doesn't mean I wouldn't someday; actually, I've told myself I will go to my twentieth, if my own sorry-ass class plans it, that is! My 10th year was actually planned in my 11th year, so apparently we both went to really diligent schools. Ha!

If you didn't go, I definitely wouldn't blame you. I personally like to keep things from the past IN the past if I can help it. ;o)

Well so far we have only had a 10 year reunion and my wife and I went to that, where we heard almost all night "I can' believe you and Renee and still married!! That is so great!!" (We got married when she was taking her final exams and had been together for 12 years at that time) Over all the 10yr was pretty fun. It was good to see the people I had not seen in years and hear what they were doing now. My 20th is next year and if I am not out at work, I will probably go to it as well. If for no other reason than to hear people go "HOLY CRAP!! YA'LL ARE STILL TOGETHER?!?!?!" (Been 21 years now)

my tenth was five years ago and i didn't go, but it's funny that it took me this long before i found another whose high school football team also had a pefect record.

in my three years of high school we won 3 games. and people wonder why i never played.

i went to my ten year and was bummed that the people i wanted to see weren't there, but i think i would have regretted not going all the same.

I never went to any of mine. I don't keep in touch with anyone from that time so it's not a big deal with me.

I always said I wouldn't go. My 10 year comes in 2010. I do see my former classmates and actually have had to wait on them. (Really funtimes there.) If I were you, and I often think I want to be like you, I would go. You are a beautiful and amazing person and you seem happy with yourself. Youmight be an inspiration to some of those people that thought they had it all figured out.

I attended my fifth reunion since I was living in town then, and also attended my 10th but I've not gone back since then. My 25th reunion was 2 years ago.

Reunions can be fun but it doesn't sound like you have any ties there so why bother? I vote "nay", Diane.

I went to my 10-year reunion, and will never attend another one. It was so sparsely attended that the Miss Perfect who arranged it broke down crying when she realized she wouldn't have enough money to pay the caterer. So we all pitched in some extra to ensure the bill got paid.

We were always known as the Apathetic Grade anyway, so it was kind of fitting.

I'm not one for looking back, come to think of it. The few folks who I still keep in touch with from high school are all dear friends. Everyone else is best forgotten.

Geez, I sound SERIOUSLY nasty in this comment. It's not like me at all. Really!

I went to my ten year reunion--ended up leaving the reunion with people I didn't even know in high school (it was a large school) to go to another bar... They've had two more reunions since, and I missed 'em both and haven't missed out on much. It's interesting that the same chic-click is still sending out the invitations.

I didn't attend until the 20th, but I have been every five years since then and I am going to have my 50th next summer! I didn't think I'd have much fun at the reunions, but I really do. It is great fun to see everyone and catch up on their lives (and brag about mine like they do theirs).

This August I am going back for what they call a decade reunion. Everyone who graduated from the 5 years before and five years after our graduation will be there. The last time we had one of those, we had 650 people there. I like that reunion because I got to see a lot of people from the junior and soph. classes that I wouldn't see at a regular reunion. I have a lot of fun at mine; you should go with your friends from school and enjoy!!

Love the pic, BTW!
