A Hair to Remember

Being home, running around town, and visiting friends at familiar hangouts has made me feel like my old self. But after today, I actually look like myself again.

This is because after weeks of being overdue for a cut and highlights, I finally got in to see Megan, stylist extraordinaire and, more importantly, friend.

Before today, my hair situation had become pretty unruly. Think circa-60s Beetles mop top without nearly enough hair. Forget British invasion. I was a walking fashion faux pas--a cross between scary hausfrau and a Glamour Don’t Girl. Sure, I could have gone ahead and gotten my hair done before I left for the Unites States, but a cut by Megan is so worth the wait.

My guess is that most male readers won't fully appreciate the all-important bond between a woman and her stylist, especially one where the relationship has blossomed over time. But ladies, I know you hear me.

Seriously? Is there anything better than walking out of a salon feeling both socially engaged and perfectly coifed? I don’t think so.

Although I left with few containers of my favorite hair products, I only wish I could bottle Megan and take her back to Germany with me. If anyone has any suggestions on how I might smuggle her out without either her husband (Sorry, Kevin) or the German authorities finding out, please let me know.

I hear ya...and I've done the same thing you did. Now I am just thankful I've found a great stylist here in Germany...because it's all about having a good hair day, isn't it? :)

I feel the same way about my barber.

The German (who has way better hair than I do) found a woman to cut his hair whom I went bto and at the same salon I had my hair re-colored: I was starting to look like a skunk. I totally inderstand! And she gave me a decent cut and when I went back two days later she recut my bang to exactly where I wanted it and now she's no longer there:-(
I have trust issues so great with haircuts that I still have never had Thing1's hair cut: she has my rotten hair (with cowlicks and thinness) and I don't want to be responsible for it looking bad!

Thing2 isn't bad, no fever. Just the damn diarrhea which makes me keep her home and keeps me chained as a prisoner inthe apartment.

I honestly think I'm cursed in the hair department. I can never get anyone who can cut my hair in a manner I actually LIKE. I mean besides a blunt bob with layers that I can flatiron but who wants the same damn cut all the time? I had my hair cut on New Year's eve and it's already past my shoulders and doing its own sweet thing. I can't control it. I just once want to find a stylist who can cut it into something I a) like, b) suits me, c) will grow into some sort of shape for once, d) doesn't cost $200. It will never happen!

yeah, being a guy that hasn't had a haircut in over a year, can't really relate to the bong with the stylist. my bond with my favorite bartender? that's different?

i'm with everyone here: let's see photos!

Oh man, do I EVER know the importance of a great relationship with your stylist! I've so far as compared this to finding a good man to marry, and I stick to that! Ha!

Glad you were able to get cleaned up! GOod luck finding someone suitable in your new land (but don't be surprised if you don't...)! ;o)

I'm like you, but rather in the opposite sense. Since moving to France I've had better hairdressers here than I ever did in the states & I've sworn off American salons. I don't know what I'll do if I ever go back.

Thanks for the Happy St Patrick's Day - I've been meaning to come over here and catch up with you. Sounds like you're doing fine. What a wonderful husband you have (I just read down a bit) and that hair thing? I have moved a couple of times and man oh man, I would have given up a lot to keep my hairdresser with me. Keep having a great time.

The right hairdresser might be reason alone to never move away from him/her. Glad you got to see her. Bet you look great.

Diane ~ I would love to give you some advice here, but TRUTH IS... I can't fully appreciate the all-important bond between a woman and her stylist, especially one where the relationship has blossomed over time! ~ jb///
P.S. ~ Your posts on my blog always bring a grin to my face, but the one about Iowa just cracked me up! THX!
P.P.S. ~ So where's the picture of the NEW (Megan) DO?

Every time I think I've found the perfect stylist, she messes up and I start all over. This has been a lifelong problem for me...ciao

It's weird. For eight months I've not had to worry about hair cuts. Now I'm going to have to think about that again because my hair is coming in gangbusters.

i currently go to two separate salons, sitting a combined total of three hours...for a simple simple cut and highlights.

not so simple, apparently.
