Double the trouble

Three weekends ago, Max and I recovered from our recent drama in the Alsace region of France. The next weekend, we delighted ourselves in Rome, then headed to Athens for the four-day holiday.

What are we doing this weekend, you ask?

Baby-sitting two-year-old twins. That’s right-- TWO terrible twos……for the whole freakin’ weekend!

Don’t think for even a minute that we were asked to do this. Smarty pants that Max and I are, we actually volunteered for the assignment because we wanted to give the parents a much needed break.

What were we thinking?

Of course, mom is so excited to be having a real vacation that she is picking me up early—like in 15 minutes—so she and the hubby can make an early start on Friday. Max won’t be joining me until later that night, long after I put the kids to bed…

all by myself.

Can you tell I’m a little worried right now?

Again, what were we thinking?

I so can't wait for the post-babysitting (read: post babysitting and post martinis) blog post :)

Oh, what nice kind friends you and Max are! How thrilled and excited your friend must be. I have an inkling of her excitement, since kind friends of ours have invited all three of our kids for a sleepover on Saturday. We will have whole 24 hours to ourselves. Yay! The Thrill!

And good luck for a weekend with two two-year-olds. Hope it goes magnificently.

What were you thinking?
You were thinking how nice it would be for you to do this for your friends.
This way you can experience the pleasure/pain of having children and the pleasure/pain of giving them up after a day or two.

Bless you my friend... you deserve some serious pampering after this weekend! Nothing like jumping right on in with 2 year olds... Do you have a good set of ear plugs? A bottle of wine perhaps?

I bet it won't be nearly as tough as you had anticipated. [crosses fingers and knocks on wood]

I don't know what you both were thinking, Diane, but good luck. I hope that the parents return. They might just realize how much better it feels to be away..... and never come back!

Sweet lord, woman - I think this qualifies you for sainthood! Be sure to bring a stash of either vodka or Prozac.

Say now, the next time you come back to Raleigh, my daughter has a few kids you can babysit! (only 6). Hope it goes well.

Okay, the first thing I wanted to say was "ARE YOU INSANE??"...but you really are truly kind to do this. Finding willing babysitters can be a hard thing.
