I still don't understand why this is happening to you. We have a Miele (so old that we actually brought it back from the US with us, where a German family had brought it not realizing that dryers can't be converted to run in the US) and it is not like that at all. In fact, yesterday I ran a 20 minutes cycle using the automatic moisture sensor. I think the repairman was an ass and you need to complain higher up the line: if the clothes aren't dry within 30 minutes to an hour when they start out not very wet, then you either have a huge problem with your sensors, a machine which has no sensors and so you should replace it, or... you have the wrong setting on and are setting it for most or air ony or one of those other strange specialty settings.
On the other hand, I just bought a small hanging dryer at Ikea myself so that I can hang the girls clothes and raincoats, as even on the lightest setting I find the dryer to harsh on sequins and bras.

We also have a Miele and about a year after we moved in I started having problems with it. The clothes were still wet after the drying cycle. Then I discovered something...

Do you know there are 3 places where you have to remove the lint build up? I knew of the two: one right inside the door and the other a filter you pull out of the door. But there is also a third one near the bottom of the machine and behind a panel I had never touched because it looks like something only a repairman should access.

Now I clean it out every 3-4 months. The dryer works great.

I was going to commiserate with you about drying stuff on the rack, but now from the comments I see you have a dryer! Now I am just plain jealous.

Hang in there! I can relate...

It's better for the environment.

Ha! It could be worse...you could still be expected to wash your clothing in a bucket with one of those wooden washboards! ;o)

I know it's a stupid question, but is the dryer vented, and possibly just blocked up with lint?

Yeah, it's better for the environment. But I agree: Pfffft! ;-)

Years ago I had one of those washer/dryer combos. It's a washer! Flip a switch. Now it's a dryer! The dryer part broke and I never bothered to get it fixed since the only thing I ever bothered to dry in it was towels. When it was time to replace the washer I was so used to rack drying I bought a plain washer.

I sometimes think that the real reason I have a 2nd bedroom is so I can dry clothes on a rack in it.

I have that same drying rack, but in red and white. Actually the wind blew so hard today it knocked it over, and now I have to re-wash some of the clothes.

Laundry in Germany is still a far cry better than laundry in Jordan, I believe.
